To meet the requirements for registration in Australia all nurses must possess and demonstrate that they meet the National Nursing Competency Standards.
ALL overseas nurses must be able to demonstrate these competency standards to be eligible for registration.
Generally this requirement is waived for nurses from the UK, Ireland, USA, South Africa, Canada, Singapore*, Hong Kong* and the Netherlands* however this is by a case by case basis and it is prudent to still check. (*Proof of English language competence is required).
If you are from one of the above countries, please contact the Nurses Board, Australia's regulatory nursing body, in the capital city in which you may wish to commence work in Australia (see list below).
Nurses from countries other than those listed above must undertake a Bridging Program. At this stage Australian Nursing Network cannot consider sponsorship any of these nurses.
Once you have obtained this initial registration, you may move from state to state within Australia under mutual recognition arrangements. The details of this program are available from each State board of nursing.

Nurses wanting to register in Australia need to have an assessment of their nursing qualifications and competencies. This assessment is organised through the Australian Nursing Council Inc, or through the Australian Immigration Office dealing with the nurse's Visa application.
It is important to note that your application should be made before leaving for Australia.
Further information can be made obtained from the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council.
