New South Wales Health Vaccination Information

Healthcare workers must be able to provide evidence of immunisation status before 1st May 2008 otherwise they will not be permitted to work within the Public Hospital System in New South Wales.

All staff are required to provide a copy of their immunisation status before their first shift. The following table shown below indicates that the infectious disease that require protection and what will be deemed acceptable evidence to demonstrate adequate protection. Acceptable evidence of protection includes a written record of vaccination signed by GP, pathology results or a completed Adult Vaccination Record Card signed by the provider.

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis One documented dose of adult dTpa vaccine
Hepatitis B Documented evidence of a completed, age appropriate course of hepatitis B vaccine and documented evidence of ant-HBs >10mIU/ml; or evidence of past hepatitis B infection (anti-HBc)
Measles, Mumps, Rubella  Birth date before 1966, or documented evidence of 2 doses of MMR vaccine at least one month apart or documented evidence of positive serology for measles, mumps and rubella
Varicella (Chicken Pox)  History of Chicken pox or documented by a physician – diagnosed shingles or positive varicella IgG or documented evidence of age appropriate vaccination
Tuberculosis  All persons will need to have visited a local chest clinic to be screened for TB (to exclude active TB) and establish baseline TB status
